The process of evaporation is the first on my list of the top six examples of endothermic reactions. Of course, you’re wondering, “How?” Okay, let me explain…

The drying of wet clothes is a common example of evaporation. Evaporation is a type of phase transition in which a substance changes directly from a liquid to a gaseous state.

When wet clothes are drying, the water droplets inside the clothes (system) draw heat from the surroundings. As a result, the system’s enthalpy, or internal energy (wet clothes), rises.

Plants, unlike animals (including us), produce their own food. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants produce food, and it is also thought to be the result of an endothermic reaction.

Solar energy or sunlight is absorbed by the leaves during the photosynthesis process, which is then converted into food with water and carbon dioxide. As a result of this, a plant grows.

Yes, lighter elements such as hydrogen and its isotopes are only fusible. Let me tell you something, brother…!!! That is not correct. All elements, regardless of size, are capable of fusing with one another. However, there is a catch.

Because we are attempting to extract energy by fusing elements in a fusion reactor, we must use lighter elements such as hydrogen and its isotopes. What I mean is that the reaction in a nuclear fusion reactor must be exothermic in order to extract energy.

And for that, we must employ the lightest elements. According to scientific evidence, a typical case of endothermic reaction would be nuclear fusion of elements heavier than iron in supernovae.

The process of sublimation is the next one on my list of the top six endothermic reaction examples. Dry ice sublimation is a typical example of sublimation. To clarify, dry ice is simply a commercialised form of carbon dioxide.

Sublimation is a type of phase transition in which a substance changes directly from the solid to the gaseous state without passing through the liquid state. In the case of dry ice, solid carbon dioxide (dry ice) extracts heat from its surroundings in order to sublimate, making it an endothermic process.

Instant Cold Pack

Let’s talk about something upsetting. Have you ever had a neck or shoulder sprain? Have you ever had back pain? What would you require to instantly relax from that excruciating pain? Any ideas? You need an Instant Cold Pack…!!!

An instant cold pack, as the name implies, is a pack of two pouches separated by a thin membrane that we primarily use to relieve pain from a sore back or sprained ankle.

One contains water, while the other contains ammonium nitrate. You might be wondering how an instant cold pack fits into the category of an endothermic reaction. So, let’s see how this goes!

When the thin membrane that was separating the water and Ammonium Nitrate from mixing together is broken, a chemical reaction occurs, which causes the water to become as cold as ice, thus easing our sore back or ankle sprain.

In other words, when Ammonium nitrate is mixed with water, the reaction between them removes heat from the water, resulting in an endothermic reaction.

Cooking Food

Cooking food is the last but not least of my top six examples of endothermic reactions in everyday life. The cooking process is an endothermic reaction. Assume you’re making a Maggi.

The energy of the pan is used or absorbed by the Maggi during the cooking process. As a result, it is an endothermic process. Speaking of Maggi, I’m starving after a long day. I’d better hurry up and wrap this one!!!
