What is Physics? Physics is the most fundamental branch of physical science which deals with the study of matter and energy, and their relationship with each other.

Answering the question “what is physics” we can say that this is the science of inanimate nature, that is, physics studies the physical world around us.

In the ancient world, this was true, since in those days there was little knowledge about nature and individual sciences did not stand out. However, with the accumulation of knowledge, such sciences as chemistry, geography, geology, and astronomy separated from physics. Not to mention the fact that biology and mathematics stood out as sciences even earlier.

Currently, physics is referred to as a natural science, it is understood as a science that studies the general laws of nature, the structure and motion of matter. Physics studies nature as a whole, while the subject of its research is both the smallest particles and the entire universe.

Nowadays, in response to the question “what is physics“, you can include all the technical devices around us. All of them appeared as a result of achievements in various branches of physics (mechanics, electromagnetism, optics, thermodynamics, etc.).

Somewhere since the Renaissance (approximately from the XV century) in physics, experiment began to be used as a method of studying natural phenomena, which in our time is the main method of research.

The regularities observed in nature began to be called physical laws. Often they described quantitative relationships in nature, which required them to be written down in the form of mathematical formulas. Thus, we can say that mathematics has become the language of physics.

Another important method of cognition is the theoretical description of natural phenomena. On the basis of such descriptions, physical theories are created that include general laws of nature that explain various phenomena. The first physical theory was created by I. Newton. It is now called “classical mechanics”.

To date, another method of research is used in physics – computer modeling.

Physical phenomena are divided into mechanical, thermal, electromagnetic, light, quantum. They are studied by various branches of physics. So in a sense, answering the question “what is physics”, we can say that this is a complex science that includes such sciences (branches of physics) as mechanics, thermodynamics, molecular physics, electromagnetism, optics, atomic physics, nuclear physics.
